As Intelligent Automation (IA) practitioners, we often face the challenge of taking a single use-case of IA success to the next level of enterprise-wide implementation. This challenge is compounded when automated processes are implemented without consideration for the user experience. These invariably result in "failures" that further reduce enterprise motivation to adopt IA. Overcoming this challenge is business critical as the value of IA is only realised when it is adopted and scaled at the enterprise level.
There is thus a need to amalgamate the customer experience mindset with IA to enable meaningful digital and automated experiences and processes. We call this Automation with Experience. To achieve this, we need a tailor-fit enterprise automation approach that identifies the right IA toolset for the organisation, a focus on internal capability building so that the IA skill set is internalised, as well as a framework to use IA to augment existing processes or create brand new experiences.

Value has an individual meaning to different sectors but the most complete description that addresses RPA in manufacturing reads as follow. “Throughput is the rate at which the system generates money through sales” (The goal Eliyamu M. Golgard). Throughput has so many colorful variables during the manufacturing processes, but the most undervalued leisure is the gold mine of unstructured data that is imbedded in the infrastructure of the process lines. This unstructured data can be mined and converted to structure data to populate reports to help control the bill of material. During my career I have seen many disconnected interfaces between the traditional ERP systems and the production lines. Hence companies are feeding an unseen hungry monster that devoured raw material during the production process this creates an unease in the back office during mass balance and a tension builds between losses and savings. By adding data lines from the production lines and by interfacing them to the ERP one opens endless possibilities that connects the customers needs in real time by employing bots in the back office. Agility becomes a natural Poka-Yoke that drives continues improvement without effort due to the enhance cognitive tool the ecosystem added to enhance the decision taking processes. It allows the human in the back office to align decisions to enhance make business strategy and profit. At maturity levels machine learning and AI can be added to the ecosystem to deal with the low hanging fruits to reduce turn over times.
My experience has been marinated by 25 years of packaging experience in the petrol and chemical manufacturing environment. This has changed my DNA imprints during my personal journey in the production environment. One of my boast rights is an international award that produced fruits during an optimization project that I was part of, and the award was presented under the title of project team of the year. But looking back and acknowledging the swiftness of evolution I must admit change in techniques during lean production is about to meet a facial, nip and tug by injection digitalization.
I have been privileged through my career to experience different cultures that was molded by Japan, Germany, France, Holland and South African production units but during my observations one denominator that oversee customer experience is culture. Culture is engulfed by a complex system with layers created during a natural life cycle indulge form different parts of the world. I don’t need to inform you that the human experience changed because of technology hence real time trend and experience may be artificial or relevant but it is dominating future culture trends. I am a firm advocate that digital transformation and RPA creates an more productive and professional culture without being destructive but building accountability due to the agile nature.
