Themes: RPA- Technology, Tools & Architecture/RPA Tutorial / Training / Workshop

X Topic Abstract

I will discuss how RPA utilises software robots which perform tasks by mimicking the way humans use software applications, such as clicking the mouse and entering data via the keyboard. Simple rules can also be set for these robots to make decisions. A.I. enhances degree of automation to handle cognitive tasks too.

X Topic Abstract

Digitisation and automation opportunity in Finance is much more than AP and AR.

Future of Finance is a hot topic. Most finance professionals have heard that ‘automation/robotics’ will unlock new opportunities for finance functions to add value, reduce cost and make quicker, better decisions. a recent survey found that over 50% of finance executives feel that they need more information to understand the opportunity and plan for success. The market is also flooded with examples of automating Shared Services functions like Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, but less is spoken about higher end finance tasks that require data manipulation, data wrangling, exception reporting, automated data analytics etc. So much is possible if you know how.

The goal of RPA/automation isn't just to 'process data quicker', it should be (and can be) to ENABLE better finance business partnering through more informed analysis and insights.

Michael will use his deep experience as a Chartered Accountant and Financial Professional coupled with Data Interactive's expertise in fit-for-purpose Automation Platforms, to provide examples of real outcomes that have been delivered, how to structure a finance focused Automation Project for success and 3 key tips to achieving measurable results.

Speaker Profile

Michael is the CEO of Data Interactive a boutique business advisory firm and his career spans over 20 years servicing large corporates in various consulting roles across audit, tax and business management and more recently Business Process Automation.

Michael investigated the emerging Robotic Process Automation (RPA) industry in 2014-15 and the types of ‘Tech’ (RPA/Intelligent Automation technologies) available and in late 2015 Michael created the Data Interactive Group to help Australian businesses ‘unlock the value of data’ through RPA and Automation Platforms

Today Data Interactive is a boutique Digital Process Automation (DPA) firm providing Process Automation advisory services (Strategy, Readiness, Tool Selection), Implementation and Support as well as ‘Robotics as a Service’ offerings.

Uniquely, Data Interactive is vendor agnostic and an authorised reseller of 13 different Automation technologies and platforms - the broadest breadth of automation tools in Australia. This ensures independent advice on the ‘Best-Fit’ DPA solution is given EVERY time. This vendor agnostic approach, coupled with a business outcomes led consulting approach (ie not technologist led) is a cornerstone of Data Interactive’s attractiveness to clients and ensures project success occurs when business results are delivered, not the new 'tech' implemented.

Data Interactive’s clients include entities such as ASX top 50 corporates, major local governments, $1bn health care provider, major retailers.

Michael’s insight and ‘best fit’ Automation tool perspective has led to invitations to speak at various business conferences/events:

Australian Shared Services Association (ASSA),
Corporate Tax Association (CTA),
Tax Institute of Australia (TIA)
Suncorp Group’s National Sunrise event,
Queensland Local Government Internal Audit conference
Institute of Chartered Accountants CFO series
RPA/Intelligent Automation conference Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne
Insuretech Sydney and Melbourne
Virtual Finance World Summit 2019 and 2020
CPA Australia – Brisbane IT Discussion Group
Finance Strategic Leaders program

X Topic Abstract

RPA in Shared Services presents an ideal opportunity to showcase the results of automation across the organisation but there are key issues to keep in mind.

Speaker Profile

Karan is a Senior Consultant with the Business Services Line for ISG in Australia. He supports the ANZ ISG team with a shared services lens on RPA design and delivery. He works with clients on Business Process and Shared Services assessment, process improvement and automation opportunity assessment and BAU design and Automation target operating model development. For a large local government Shared Services engagement, Karan recently performed a platform automation assessment for processes in Payroll.

X Topic Abstract

RPA has it's own challenges when it comes to implementation: Businesses are not aware about the robot and how it works, and hence bot is blamed for everything even though there is no bot deployed for the process. It's about lack of education among businesses that limits the scope of Automation. There can be possibility of having 50 processes to be automated but because of restrictions from the business, the scope of automation is limited to 20 or 25 processes.

Speaker Profile

“Ronak is a Software professional carrying 4+ years of experience specialising in Robotics Process Automation. Ronak possesses a strong track record in end to end implementation of RPA solutions, working closely with business SMEs across different industries including Finance, Health and others to identify, qualify opportunities, improve business processes and deploy emerging technologies. He believes that most of the business processes which are mundane can be automated but lack of awareness and education among businesses about robots limits the use of automation. He has focused on stakeholder engagement and education of RPA within the business to clarify all misconceptions regarding the bots. This has helped the organisation to scale up the automation and resulted in successful implementation of complex bots.

Ronak did his Masters in Information Technology major in Data Science from Queensland University of Technology, Australia. He has used the skills of AI and Machine Learning gained from University to scale up his automation journey to Intelligent Automation.Passionate about the socio-economic opportunities presented by emerging technologies, Ronak enjoys collaborating with organisations aspiring to shape and pioneer the “tech for good” agenda and volunteering his time to support initiatives aimed to address key societal challenges such as digital divide, diversity in STEM, and sustainable innovation.During his University days, Ronak has lead one of the prominent student clubs as President and helped the community in building the ecosystem of Data Science and AI in Queensland. This has helped more than 300 members of the club and other participants across Australia. Ronak have done few great collaborations with industries such as Australian Computer Society (ACS) during the tenure, that has helped the students and wider community in Queensland. His passion for the community continues after the Uni days and his prior experience helped him to take the opportunity to lead Queensland AI Labs as Chief Operating Officer.

Ronak is also a mentor of University students and shares his industrial experience and guides them on their journey of Intelligent Automation. His expertise in the field has given him the opportunity to be a guest speaker and was invited by Queensland University of Technology(QUT) and Tableau User Group, Brisbane.”
